Drilling Deep: Jordan

Drilling Deep: Jordan

In 2022 Flow-5 were contracted to supervise the installation and testing of a new water supply borehole at a drinks bottling facility in Jordan.

The borehole was drilled to 390m depth to target a deep limestone aquifer. The works required close supervision, as some advanced drilling and installation techniques were used to ensure the target aquifer was fully isolated from the overlying aquifer units. This included:

Installation of over 300m of stainless-steel casing

Injection of cement grout through a grout shoe

Cement bond log to verify the quality of the final grout installation

        Mechanical development (swabbing / plunging)

        Chemical development (acidization)

The team had to think on their feet throughout, overcoming a number of challenges to ensure the borehole was successfully installed to the planned design and specification. This involved implementing an enhanced borehole development process at late notice to tackle unexpected clogging of the aquifer. The borehole yield was seen to increase over fourfold during the development process, really highlighting the value of thorough borehole development using a range of techniques!

The final borehole met the client’s yield and water quality requirements and was put into operation soon after the final testing was complete.
