Flow-Link monitoring systems for two country estates in Scotland with Highwater

In 2024–25, HighWater Scotland installed two Flow-Link monitoring systems for private water supplies (PWS) at country estates in Scotland. These estates rely on their water supply to support a wide range of uses, including domestic properties, agricultural infrastructure, and commercial activities. Ensuring a consistent and high-quality water supply is critical to the smooth running of these operations. The Flow-Link monitoring systems help the estate managers ensure reliable performance, prevent system failures, and avoid costly downtime.

The installed systems continuously track a wide range of parameters, including flowmeter readings (flow rate and total usage), water levels in tanks and boreholes, and water quality metrics such as free chlorine, pH, EC, ORP. They also monitor power supply status and other key system metrics. All data is accessible remotely via the Flow-Link dashboards, with alarm notifications at customisable thresholds, alerting operators to potential issues. These features significantly reduce the need for costly manual monitoring and site visits as well as allowing water consumption to be closely monitored and managed.

So far, the systems are performing well and have already demonstrated their value. Operators can now monitor both short and long-term performance trends, allowing for more informed decision making and proactive maintenance. Notably, the systems have identified critical issues early on, including a leak losing 14,000 litres of water per day as well as a pump failure, both of which were resolved before escalating into major problems.

Craig Forster (Director, Highwater Scotland Ltd) gave feedback:

“We have successfully installed Flow-Link monitoring systems at two country estates in Scotland. The alarm notification feature has been particularly useful; It has helped one Estate identify and subsequently fix an unknown leak on the buried pipework that was losing over 14,000 litres per day.

For remote sites, it is great to be able to log on and view status of the system without needing to visit the site, significantly reducing staff time and travel costs.”
